"title": "Changes to Fixing Pal Progression",
"selftext": "In my ~17 hours of playing Palworld, I’ve found it’s everything I’ve wanted from a p-mon game before, but there’s an aspect no game has been able to capture. Hear me out.\n\nLike other games, Palworld is set so that you re-catch the same pal over and over until you find the best one. This method has worked for games like pmon-go, but I think we really have an opportunity to fix it in Palworld. \n\nThe problem with this dynamic is that I find it disassociates you from your pal, he/she is just 1 out of 100000 you caught. Nothing really special.\n\nThis is doubly painful in Palworld specifically due to the fact there’s no evolution system, so there’s no incentive to raise/train/grow your pal, you get the best one you catch.\n\nThis might be good for some, but i find it diminishes the essence of these games, which is to raise and bond with these creatures.\n\nI don’t really know how many of you might feel this way, but if there’s enough of you, I think I have 2 simple solution to fix it:\n\n1. An evolution system is necessary. It’s the #1 reason for wanting to raise a pal from level 1. This not only gives a better sense of progression and attachment to the pal, but it gives a reason to keep using starter ones as they improve with you. If my Lamball was great at the starter island, I would like my Lamball evolution#3 to also be great in the end game.\n\n2. Allow for a way to further improve the pal you grew attached with. Being able to change/move/rearrange moves is great, but if I grew attached to my starter Lamball that had a shitty stats/character, I’d like the opportunity to re-train it in the later game. If my Lamball carried me through the starter island, she deserves to be evolved and improved through my travels. Maybe allow me to teach her how to have the “hardworking” character. It doesn’t have to be cheap or easy, just possible. It sucks to stash away starter Pals to never see the light of day after mid game.\n\nInterested to hear your thoughts.",

"body": "You do know there’s breeding right?\n\nTake the best traits you capture and breed until you get better. Breed them. Repeat until you get perfect stats, then blender the rest into the perfect one to upgrade. (You should at least be able to hit rank 3).\n\n“Evolution” is done through breeding and condensing, and THE ENTIRE THEME of the game is how disposable pals really are. \n\nYour shoot one as a missile ffs 😂 \n\nYou slave labor them \n\nYou butcher them for basic materials instead of letting them go.\n\nIt’s a parody of Pokémon, making satirical fun over the entire “cockfighting” aspect of your pets into the extreme.\n\n“Pilachu” don’t fit here. They aren’t really your buddy… they’re almost all expendable (you’ll burn through over 100 pals for 1 real keeper. Edit: there’s even a thread above this one on “Hot” sort right now about someone that bred 400 times to get the perfect pal )\n\nNurturing one into the perfect pal doesn’t fit the theme. It’s all sacrifices to get there.",

"body": "I suppose adding an evolution system would be a very solid mod… I’m sure there’s people that would prefer a system that lets them keep their first of each type and “feed” them captures to evolve…\n\nBut I don’t think it’s in line with the very core thematics of the game. So I would only ask to have more depth to those systems for the vanilla experience"

"body": "I kind of get where you're coming from. I do definitely \"miss\" no evolutions. I say \"miss\" because if we're looking at Palworld as it's own thing (imaging if Pokemon was never created), they've established it as a new thing with no evolution....we don't live in that world though, so I was a bit bummed when I learned for example, somehow Pengullet isn't a baby form of Penking. \n\nSo beyond that fact, early game Pals are definitely just use the best you catch. Late game though, the breed grind gets real, trying to pass on the best passives to make the best Pal you can. Again, basically the same system you end up doing with Pokemon. \n\nI have about 140 hours in the game so I have a much different perspective than you do with how many hours you have currently. But I wonder if/how your opinion will change once you start getting closer to late game (late 40's-50). I'm going to be curious to see what other features they implement alongside the features they've already announced like raids and pvp. I'm sure more supporting/changed systems will come out. In the end, the game is still super new. I'm super excited and I hope you enjoy your journey!!"

"body": "You have the condenser, the essence boosting, and the leveling hell between 40 and 50 + rare skill fruits.\n\nThats alot of progression and investment that you will not be putting into many pals.",

"body": "I agree that they do need to add evolutions. It would add a lot more variety and dynamics to the game. With there only being a little over 100 Pals, there’s not much to do after you’ve caught one of each other than get a stronger one. I’m sure they’re thinking the same thing. They’ll probably add it and some other stuff to the game as it goes. This is just the start, and considering how well it’s done, they’re going to want to milk it for as much as they can, just like Pokémon has done over the years."

{
"body": "I'd rather a hybrid/modification system like is found in the lore.\n\nDissolving pals down then infusing them into another to give it traits/abilities.\n\nRight now the condenser just makes a pal a bit stronger but I think that can be built upon. Crazy scientist was able to make a brand new pal by doing this."
},
{
"body": "Yes. I agree, and i hate that the whole \"no evolution\" thing is a popular opinion on here. The argument that it makes it so that each pal can shine individually doesn't make sense, because thats not how it works at all. Penking is just a better Pengullet in the end. And I want to see my precious Pengullet evolve into something great"
},
{
"body": "I get what you’re taking about. You’re talking more about the personal connection between your first pal being able to go the whole stretch.\n\nAnd in some ways it’s possible, and other ways it’s not. Sure you can condense pals and raise his base stats a bit. And use the effigy thing to boost them further by a percentage. And leveling him further will u lock new moves. So it’s definitely doable… The only drawback is you won’t get new passives on specifically him. You’d have to breed it. But the neat thing is they start from 1. So it’s kinda like starting from the beginning eh?"
