"selftext": "Starting to explore the game and pretty overwhelmed by the amount of options. I’m unfortunately a bit of a power-gamer when it comes to these games so was curious if there are any builds that tend to scale really well/get super strong? \n\nFor reference, I’m coming off the back of playing around with Divinity: Original Sins 2 where the consensus seemed to be once it got rolling a Necromancer build was just God-tier. Anything similar in PoE or is it a bit more finely balanced?",

"body": "Yea and no.\nAnything is viable with a full party even on The hardest difficulty.\n\nThe builds used for the ultimate run are very specific due to its nature, and I would say not necessarily the most powerful if you play the game normally even on POTD difficulty.\n\nBut generally the op classes all have regenerating resources. So Monk, Cipher, Chanter, and then the subclass bloodmage and tactician fighter. Those last two are a bit difficult to play if you aren’t familiar with the game and can actually be worse if you don’t play them right. \n\nIf you are just starting and aren’t super familiar with the mechanics and want to min-max a power build I would suggest a single class monk, probably the Nalpazca or whatever. Crank up some perception, decent dex and might. Don’t drop any stats. Buy all the drugs and crank alchemy and use all the drugs. Good class start to close, only weakness is a few fights with mages that can cast arcane dampener and that’s rare. Once you hit late game you can literally just take some drugs, pop a few self buffs, and just chain whisper of the winds on groups",

"body": "Right, it’s rare you’ll use more abilities then a standard class because the fight is won by the time you’d get around to it. Can be helpful to clear certain areas a little early. I like having my bloodmage because I can just hit her with robust from pallegina and have my xoti buffing her as she just regenerates spells with blood sacrifice, so the moment I got high enough level for shadowflame I could spam that in ship battles that would be beyond me normally. But that’s about it lol"

"body": "It really depends on what role you want to be OP for - it might be helpful if you had some idea of what kind of thing you want the character to be good at, be it damage or survivability or support or debuffing. There are builds designed to solo the special \"Ultimate\" challenge, for instance, so those might be considered the most overpowered, but if you're playing normally in a party, they rely on lengthy, tedious setups and won't be able to contribute as much, and it becomes more important to consider your overall group composition and how efficiently you can fill each role across all five members. All sorts of builds can be made very powerful in a party environment - the question is always just what it is you want them to do for the party. If you need some specific ideas to get started, then Paladin / Troubadours make for great tank / supports, Beguiler / Chanter-or-Monk are amazing at CC and buffs, single-class Monks are great DPS and offtanks that become close to game-breaking when they get their PL 9 abilities, and Streetfighter multiclasses with the Blunderbuss modal are some of the best pure DPS builds you can create. But there are so many, many others - almost anything can excel in multiple roles."

I barely even use most cipher powers, I just get behind guys and use rogue powers or the cipher's \"use all soul energy in a melee attack\" ability and everything dies. All the other 4 have to do is keep everyone occupied."

"body": "Surprised no one mentioned Evoker Wizard. +2 PLs with Evocation spells is strong, as is Doublecast. Even better, Doublecast works with Evocation scrolls and items (like the Necklace of Fireballs). An Evoker spamming Missile Salvo and Meteor Shower (backed up by a Cipher spamming Ancestor's Memory) is insanity, and the easiest/quickest way I beat the megabosses."
