"body": "I kinda got the feeling that Isayama originally wanted jaw titan Ymir’s story to go in a drastically different direction. Like, I felt like Jaw Ymir was going to be crucial to the ending of the story, and she’d be a central player from season 2 all the way to the end. Then it feels like Isayama changed his mind and decided to kill her offscreen/off panel so to speak. Feels like he changed his mind if what his perceived ending was supposed to be, and then dumped the character. \n\n\n\nHer motivations make sense in hindsight, but I feel like it’s some post hoc rationalizations to make it work.",

"body": "Ymir is one of those characters that for me make no sense. Her childhood was pretty much stolen*,* she was turned into a titan, lived a long time as a titan and then finally made back into a human. And now finally when she found some nice people in her life aka Historia, she decided to go \"you know what, I would rather die in the hands of the people who made me a titan and who caused my suffering in the first place\" \n\nI feel like both Ymir and Annie were supposed to have better roles and more important roles, but something must have happened that caused him to change his mind. Perhaps his need to have only 139 chapters ended up in a situation where he had to cut a lot of stuff out which he wanted to have."

They did nothing for her and she told Historia prior to that to stop living for others and whatnot, they both kinda failed at that because Historia became a pawn for military and was ready to give her whole lineage to be Beast Titans and Ymir gave her life to save Reiner and Betholdt. Not trying to be offensive, just curious what you think.",

Plus since she's from Marley she knew what waited Reiner and Bertholdt if they didn't at least bring some good news back so she decided to sacrifice herself for them."

"body": "That's extremely debateable. We see her being kind to Sasha and Connnie in the story too. She also saves Daz's life.\n\nAll the 104th were friends.\n\nIt would be extremely out of character for Ymir to let them die given how selfless she is.",

"body": "She didn’t save Daz’s life, she didn’t give 2 fucks about him. She saved Christa’s life. All her interactions with Conny and Sasha are how they are idiots pretty much. \n\nAnnie also wasn’t close to pretty much anyone in 104th (she was even decently distant from Reiner and Berthodlt who were trying to fit in with others while she did her own shut). Ymir only cared about Christa.",

{
"body": "Ymir saved both Daz's life and Historia's life. There's zero evidence to state she didn't give a crap about Daz. That would be very against her selfless character if she did.\n\nShe told Sasha that she should be true to herself and speak in her real accent. She also helped her back to her dorm in Season 1 Episode 3. She also distracted Connie from the truth about his mum to keep him focused. These were nice things she did to people. Judging her by her words and not the meaning behind them is to miss the point.\n\nAnnie is a unique case. But even she was friends with a lot of the group. Ymir is far less selfish than Annie however and extremely empathetic to everyone, not just Historia.",

{
"body": "Evidence is she literally told Christa multiple times to leave Daz to die and go on her own to survive. She stopped helping her and was going on her own, but when she realized Christa won’t give up and might die, she saved them.",

{
"body": "This to me are part the big reasons.\n\nLet’s say you change the narrative and merge Ymir and Porco’s characters. Now Ymir is a warrior who went rogue.\n\nHow do you prevent her from spoiling the basement reveal and have her live long enough to eventually give her powers to Falco?\n\nIf you freeze her until she is needed for the Falco stuff, then that’s just Annie. If she gets captured by Marlie before the reveal, she is dead, there is no Porco in her, everything plays out like normal.\n\nYou need to find a way for Ymir to stay active but not involved in the story so that she isn’t capable of spoiling the basement. I guess a way to freeze her that wouldn’t necessarily feel like a repeat of Annie is if she was involved in the Annie freezing. Something like, Annie is trying to capture Ymir because she betrayed them and the fight results in both of them being frozen, When the Rumbling starts, the two of them get free, Ymir leaves, she learns Falco (in scenario they would have to have some important relationship) became a Titan and lets herself be eaten by Falco to save him but not before meeting Historia for a final time. You would have to ignore how Eren had to use the Jaw to get the Warhammer, but that can be rewritten easily.\n\nI think that could work…but it’s not necessary at all. It’s just deleting Porco for the sake of deleting him."

{
"body": "It would have made Marley look much too sympathetic and goes against the idea that they treat eldians as disposable weapons.\n\nFrom the perspective of Marley, Ymir was a random eldian criminal who had already been exiled to Paradis, to worst punishment for eldians in their society.\nThis would make her the last person they would ever trust to use one of their greatest weapon after someone from the walls, they had no reason not to give the Jaw to Porco, who was already trained and assumed to be loyal."
},
{
"body": "Ymir didn't have that bond with Marcel or that enmity with Reiner that Porco had."
},
{
"body": "You are glossing over the fact that they’re characters that aren’t created for a sole purpose lmao. She didn’t just get killed off for no reason"
},
{
"body": "I don't think Ymir would've sided with Marley. Sure, she gave up herself to Reiner but she wasn't down to kill her former comrades. So her death was unavoidable. Also the Jaw titan returning to Marley helped increase the threat of Marley in the beginning of the season."
