"title": "So Odin used Ymir's corpse to create Midgard but what of the other realms?? all beings in the Norse Pantheon in one way or another come from Ymir so here's my theory.",
"selftext": "After Odin killed Ymir he used his corpse to create Midgard and as a being of pure chaos and creation, Ymir formed into stone, water, dirt and everything and life sprung from him, Odin had a hand in creating some of this life such as Ask and Embla the first humans of Midgard and possibly more so what of the other race's realms??? \nWell we know that Ymir's blood washed over creation right?? so perhaps his essence turned into Alfheim and from the pure creation in the realm came the Elves, both light and dark. \n\n\nSome other part of Ymir turned into into Svartalfheim AKA Nidavellir and Bergelmir and his wife found Jotunheim so maybe a piece of him also became Jotunheim, what about Helheim??? well it's possible it was too created by Ymir's death, he was a being of pure chaos and creation so any realm could be created by his essence. \n\n\nNifleheim and Muspelheim where already around eons ago before any other being. \n\n\nI like to think that Asgard and Vanaheim where created by their respective gods and then molded and built upon. \n\n\n \nThis theory is pretty obvious I think?? but just something I've been thinking about since we know for a fact Midgard was created by Odin but Asgard and Vanaheim where already I think around before Odin killed Ymir so it's likely that they where created by their respective gods and if Jotunheim was around before Ymir's death then maybe Ymir created it before he died?? maybe he saw the future and saw his death like the giants are able to do?? so he made a realm for his people to live in?",

How they became populated... if they follow tradition they would also have grown out of Ymir the same way the first Jotun, Aesir and Vanir did.",

If there is an explanation for it, it's already there to read.\n\nThing about Norse myth is, there is a ton of it missing/conflicting explanations. I don't doubt they'll fill those gaps with their own creative direction. So we'll just have to accept no explanation as the explanation for some things."
