"title": "My notes on the PoE2 skill gem system",
"selftext": "######Skill gem management in PoE2 moved to a skill gems tab.\n________________________\n\n Items still have sockets. These sockets appear in the [skill gems tab](https://imgur.com/buSTVMw). Abyssal Sockets remain on items.\n \n Item Classes have a fixed number and color of sockets. The colors depend on attribute alignment but can be modified later in the game with a new currency item.\n \n \n Item Class | # of Sockets\n ---|---\n 2-hand and bows | 4 sockets\n 1-hand, shield and Body armor | 2 sockets\n Helm, Gloves, Boots, unset rings | 1 Socket\n \n * Other base types with sockets in PoE1 that werent mentioned will probably have sockets in PoE2 subject to balance\n * Some uniques will have grant additional sockets over the base amount.\n \n \t* [ Tabula Rasa in 2.0](https://imgur.com/PbUMvkB) has 3W sockets which is 1 more than every item in that slot\n \t* Prismatic Eclipse was sort of mentioned to have 3 sockets\n \t* Items like [Whispering Ice](https://imgur.com/FtLrhuc) that have built in Active Skills will have an extra Socket on the skills tab with the built in skill already socketed into it in addition to its base number of \tsockets.\n\t\t * For Active skills built into items, the number/color of sockets and your ability to modify them depends on the design of the item/mod.\n\n_______________________\n\nThese sockets determine how many available Socket groups you can have.[ So at minimum, a character can have 9 socket groups\\(6L\\)](https://imgur.com/buSTVMw)\n\n\n* A socket group is made up of a Socketed active skill gem and a number of empty linked sockets. The colors and number of linked sockets is determined by the Active Skill gem. \n\n\n* These empty linked sockets only exist if an Active skill gem is the main/first skill in a socket group. This matters for understanding the new Meta gem mechanic.\n\n\n* Maximum socket amount depends on Item level in the same way maximum sockets are determined in PoE1. \n * Number and colors of the sockets on these gems can vary for random drops\n * Vendor gems have a fixed configuration of sockets\n * Number of sockets from vendor gems will increase as you progress through the acts\n * You can transfer gem exp from 1 gem to another if you find one with more sockets.\n\nYou can modify sockets of Active skill gems with Jeweller's/Chromatics in the same way you modify sockets in PoE1. Because all sockets are inherently linked, fusings dont do anything and is planned to be removed.\n\n\n\n______________________________________\n\nMeta skill gems are a new type of active skill gem. \n\n* You can support Meta skill gems with active skill gems in addition to regular support gems. \n * Remember that the sockets of active skills only function when they are socketed as a main skill so you cant put a 6L active skill gem into the linked sockets of a Meta gem.\n\n[Revealed meta gem, Proficiency](https://imgur.com/wSIJgw1)\n\n[the example layouts](https://imgur.com/DbX45JP)\n\nMentioned Meta Skills (and some speculation)\n\n* Proficiency (New meta gem for auras. Because of how this works, im speculating Blasphemy might be a meta skill and function similarly as well. they also mentioned a Herald meta gem like this one maybe)\n\n* Cast on Crit (This probably implies all trigger supports, CoMK/CWDT/CWS/COD, are now Meta skills)\n\n* Spell Totem (and by extension probably Ranged Attack Totem, maybe a melee totem as well?)",

"body": "God, I'm so hyped to play an aura bot when this comes out. \n\n7 meta gems for auras and blasphemy curses, meaning only 7 clicks when I die or swap gear.\n\nThe ability to actually have utility skills.\n\nThe ability to have super tanky minions that taunt. The ability to have 6L minions that can actually do damage when my carry is sleeping or stuck in the bathroom for hours because they ate taco bell. \n\nI see this as an absolute win. \n\nOh wait, I'm going to have to spend 15 hours buying jewels so I can corrupt them for 1% reduced mana reserve..... Alright Chris bring on the trade improvements.",

"body": "A couple of other things:\n\n* There will likely be new corruptions for gems (e.g. white sockets)\n* Gem quality will (most likely) affect rolling sockets\n* They expect that getting a few 6-socket skill gems will be easier than getting a 6-link is in the current game\n* Another possible meta skill idea mentioned was something for summoners\n* It sounded like items that support socketed skills will apply to all of the socketed active gems (but there will also be some rebalancing of them)\n* Meta skills will act as a skill, e.g. the Proficiency will have an active skill that casts all socketed auras\n * The Spell Totem meta skill will summon a totem that can cast multiple spells, e.g. a curse and then Wither",
