Any tips for a beginner?

I've been playing a few hours, and I haven't caught a lot of fish. Maybe.. 15? I've got basically no money. I've only gained 1 level. I've got the second lake unlocked, but no auger to actually use it haha. I've been playing about 60 minutes this morning and have caught.. 3 fish.I've mostly used flies and maggots with a hook/flaot in the default lake (on normal, not realistic). Tried the default spinner for 20 minutes and didn't even get a single fish interested.
