"selftext": "So I don't think this belongs in the general questions thread and forgive me if this confusion is super common (I did look it up and unfortunately have received conflicting answers).\n\nSo from what I understand PoE 2 will be a separate game, which also to my understanding was not always the case. I want to make sure I understand everything happening with the sequel.\n\n1. The new classes will be playable in ADDITION to the old ones, meaning on launch there will be 12.\n2. There will be 3 MORE ascendancies for a total of 6 each? Including the new classes?\n3. Path of exile 1 content will be fully playable in 2? This one confuses me because I've read 2 was supposed to be a big giant face lift but then turned into its own game with a new story but only after remaking most if not all of 1. So then if I play 2 I'll have all of ones campaigns/end game WITH 2 campaign and endgame?\n4. Will it be its own separate launcher or all on the same?\n5. What will happen with PoE 1? Like I understand it will run but will it run like how Diablo 2 runs but is mostly kept the same or will it still get large content updates alongside 2, or is this to be determined?\n6. Is this a bad time to get into PoE? I understand this is a rhetorical question mostly but I'm curious to read what people think with 2 presumably close AND changing up how certain fundamentals work if I should just wait or try out a character or two. This also depends on the answer to 3 because I'm all for completing campaigns from older games so if 1 campaign/end game ISN'T in 2 then I'd still be interested in playing.\n\nThanks and I hope this is worth being its own post separate from the general question thread and hope these confusions haven't been answered ad nauseum by now.",

"body": "1) Yes, 12 classes\n\n2) No, each class has only 3 ascendancy\n\n3) We don't know. Some of PoE1 league mechanics will be implemented in 2e, but we don't know which exactly. There'll be only one campaign for PoE2\n\n5) It's supposed that GGG will support both games at same time, we'll see how long can they do it\n\n6) It's free, try it. Now it's end of league so you can run a bit and get a feeling of PoE and on 26 there's new league so you'll be a bit experienced"

"body": "Aa for question 2. We really don't know what they are doing with ascends anymore.\n\nIt's safe to assume 3 ascends per class. So 36. Now that they are split there is no reason to care about what ascends exist in poe1. Poe2 is in the future and it's it's own game. For all we know they culled ascends they haven't talked about them since the split of the games as far as I've seen.\n\nThis all answer #3 cuz they are split games there is no poe1 content in poe2. It's just poe2 content if it gets added and updated for poe2.\n\nFor #4 only ggg knows how the 2 will launch. I'd assume fully separate launchers.\n\nFor #5 they've said they want 2 diff teams updating both games on opposite schedules so they can each launch in each other's down times."

"body": "1. Yes\n2. I don't recall whether they've explicitly clarified that you can choose all 6 ascendencies after they announced the switch to separate PoE2 into a separate game. Originally they said you'd be able to play the old ascendencies on new classes and vice versa so long as you've unlocked them through the campaign, but considering that all 12 classes are playable in the new campaign this might not be the case.\n3. No, it will be a separate game with entirely separate content. Some content types will make another appearance, but will be adjusted to work with the systems in PoE2 and not be identical to the ones in PoE1.\n4. I'd expect them to be separate, especially since PoE is playable through steam already. A lot of companies have made their own launcher to act as a hub like steam does, but unless GGG releases another 2-3 games I don't see the point of that (and I doubt they will release that many more games in the foreseeable future - the only other game they've planned is PoE mobile which will not be a PC game).\n5. They're planning to alternate update schedules so that people who want to play both games have about 1 month to play the PoE1 league and then 2 months to play the PoE2 league. I don't expect PoE1 expansions to be as big as they used to be in the past, but they may be slightly bigger in scope than they are now until the actual release of PoE2.\n6. PoE2 will be a different game, but that's no reason not to play PoE1. Even most MTX will be available in both games (the exception are things like skills that only exist in one of the two games and thus don't have an equivalent to apply to in the other one).",

"body": "There are 12 classes yes. There are going to be two classes per attribute alignment and both of them will start in the same spot on the passive tree but have their own three ascendancies each for 36 total. So for example the intelligence classes are Sorceress and Witch and the dexterity classes are Ranger and Huntress. A new feature in poe2 is the starting area of the tree will have a different variation between the two classes to give yet another difference between them. The \"old\" classes in poe2 are going to be similar in name only. It's a new game so new passive tree and ascendancies. There is no Scion class and it's looking like Shadow and Duelist are being renamed but haven't been revealed to us yet.\n\nPoe1 and 2 have different campaigns and different end games. Poe2 campaign is set 20 years after the ending of poe1. You cannot play any poe1 content in poe2 or vice versa. Most league mechanics currently in poe1 are being brought forward to poe2 but they will not be exactly the same in both.\n\nBoth games were said to be in the same launcher and I believe you can also use global chats between both games. I don't think that has changed but we haven't heard anything in a while. MTX is also carried over between both games with minimal exceptions.\n\nPoe1 will continue to get updates every three months staggered from poe2 updates. So poe2 will get an update and then two months later poe1 will get an update. Poe2 will receive another update one month after the poe1 update for a complete three month cycle for both games.\n\nSince both games will exist going forward and there is at least four months until the poe2 beta starts you might as well play the first one now if you're interested. There is a new league starting in two weeks, that would be a great time to get started if not today."

"body": "3. no. some mechanics will be taken over to poe2 and playable some dont make it. We dont know yet what parts of poe1 will be playable in 2. But its a standalone game that just shares some of the features 1 had.\n\n4. I dont think this is known yet? I would guess it will be 2 different launcher? They could ofc also go the riot route and have multiple games like LoL and TTF in one launcher. I just think its rarer\n\n5. the same that happened with poe the past god knows how many years. nothing will change.\n\nboth poe1 and poe2 will get their seperate leagues in the same/very similar rotation to what it is now, its just that they are delayed. So if they for example stick with 4month leagues then now would be the poe1 league release, in 2 months will be the poe2 league release, in 4months the next poe1 league, in 6months the next poe2 league, etc.\n\n6. since poe1 does not change it is as good as any time to get into poe. After poe2 releases and the hype has settled a bit some people will like poe1 more and play that one, some people will prefer poe2 and some people will play both.\n\nThey will both be arpgs that still share a lot of similarities in their functions. Some people will find the current very fast paced and screen full of shit playstyle more enjoyable and just like the product that they always got. some people might prefer the more polished look that will be a bit slower and more focussed on combining different skills, etc.\n\nHow different these games will be no one knows because we have not seen what endgame is like which is 90% of the game for people. But no matter how poe2 is does not change how poe1 currently is and will be. So if you want to get into poe1 now is as good as last league or next league."

"body": "5. PoE1 will keep getting updates like it is now\n\n4. likely a separate launcher, or maybe they'll make shared launcher where you can choose what PoE to run\n\n3. generally no (different campaign, different endgame), some area encounters will migrate but in different form\n\n2. no, each class will have 3 ascendancies, like in PoE1\n\n1.right"

"body": "Thanks for this post, it answered some questions I had. I do have another question though, and one probably no one has the answer to except GGG, but I'm curious. I know PoE2 will be cross-play & cross-progress... Will that apply to existing PoE accounts and combine account details across platforms? For instance, I have played PoE on PC, Playstation, and Xbox. I've bought mtx on multiple platforms. What's going to happen when they combine? Or will mtx remain platform-independant?"
