"selftext": "New player here, just joined last week.\n\nSo far ive enjoyed the game a lot. It brings me RSL vibes but with an actual story behind.\n\nHowever, I just found out about \"the reset\", a concept so questionable to me.\n\nI dont get the idea behind it. What's the point in spending time and effort actually playing the game, building teams and farming gears, etc. only to have them reverted back next to zero. Yes, I understand that it is not a hard account reset and we do get a proportionaye refund (and most importantly we keep the characters), but i cannot fathom spending actual time and energy (and phone battery) just to have a large part of it ... disappear?\n\nIve also never seen this concept of reset in any game ever. In most gacha game ive played, the futherance of them depends largely on newer harder content + powercreep.\n\nThink about season 3 4 5 (or more) in the future, imagine how many times veterans and have to rebuild teams again and again, doing almost the same thing instead of keep progressing and doing something new. Yes you can build new teams but the process is exactly the same. \n\nFrom what Ive seen, the general consensus of people about the reset has been positive, and I respect that. I just find it so discouraging and tbh it deters me from trying to progress in the game.",

"body": ">Ive also never seen this concept of reset in any game ever.\n\nYou must be new to gaming bc seasonal gameplay is taking off hard.\n\nHaving said that, it's not for everyone. If it's not for you then that's ok.\n\n>Think about season 3 4 5 (or more) in the future, imagine how many times veterans and have to rebuild teams again and again, doing almost the same thing instead of keep progressing and doing something new. Yes you can build new teams but the process is exactly the same.\n\nSince you brought up Raid I'll compare to that: That timeframe is about a year. In Raid, you might get 2 content drops in that time. Outside of those content drops you'll be doing the same daily grind over and over with little progression on your account. The exception will be fusions, but if you're endgame then fusions likely aren't going to change your account much, if at all, and you just passively complete them for collection.\n\nWith a seasonal reset in dragonheir comes affinity shifting and updating bosses, so dungeons, vortex, and arena are all new puzzles to solve, so even though in general we do the same thing, we have to approach content differently. If the devs stagnate then sure after a few resets it will get samey. But resets are supposed to bring new heroes and content to the game on a regular basis. Whether or not that pans out is yet to be seen, but personally I think s2 delivered well overall (campaign was a bit lighter than promised, if I'm being honest)\n\nPersonally, I like seasonal gameplay and enjoyed the reset on my server. I get a free gear cleanse and get to \"start over\" and apply the lessons I learned as a wee nublet in s1 with new champs and new teams to theoryctaft. But it's not for everyone. I'd encourage you to try out at least the first reset and see how it goes. It might surprise you.",

"body": "I compare it to RSL in the sense that the games heavily revolves around being resourceful with the champs you have, and how its not about braindead autoing through the game with op p2w characters.\n\nThat said, just like you said, they can \"change\" the bosses etc. Thats cool. But why do they have to \"change\" instead of \"add\". Keep everything as is, and \"add\" new levels, buffs, debuffs, etc. Or just plain new boss altogether.",

"body": "Because reset and change is way easier to do than to constantly add. Its very common for adding-systems to run into issues at some point. Its actualy pretty common that those have to do some sort of soft reset at some point that reworks most of the game just for them to be able to continue their progression systems.\n\n\n\n> I compare it to RSL in the sense that the games heavily revolves around being resourceful with the champs you have \n\nTbh i haven't looked at Raid in probabnly 2 years but back in the day this wasn't a universal case for the game. It was relevant for the first 3-4 months and after that it became less and less a thing. The always growing pool of leveled champions and gear was a big detrimental factor and there was a point where i my energy/books/gear to build more champions was bigger than the amount of usable champions i got from my shards."

"body": "It's a simple matter of perspective. You mention \"HAVE to build your teams\", indicating to you that's not a fun activity so you prefer to do it only once and then be done with it.\n\nI enjoy building teams and levelling my heroes. In every RPG I've ever played I lost interest once I had my team fully levelled/geared and stopped progressing.\n\nThe cyclical nature means I am spared the stale \"endgame\" where nothing moves anymore. I can level and build teams continuously.\n\nAnd there are a mountain of games like that. You probably just don't pay attention to them because that's not your cup of tea. Almost all ARPG's are seasonal. Roguelikes/Roguelites work on the same priciple just on a smaller scale, and on PC there's an endless flood of them. Every city builder and a fair amount of strategy games have sessions/campaigns that can last for weeks and then just end and you have to start all over again with a lousy settler on a new map.\n\nEvery Pen&Paper campaign ends eventually and everyone's characters venture off into the sunset. And if you've been old enough to have played the very first CRPGs on some pixellated electron cannon aimed at your head, you'd be well used to progress resets. This kind concept has been with the RPG genre from its very origins, it just has taken a back seat for the last 20ish years because games with big focus on a continuous narrative have been so successful.\n\nThe roguelite trend that is taking up so much of the RPG sphere is probably a direct result of this development. With so many CRPGs now having permanent progression, it left a core desire for some people unfulfilled and now the market corrects itself.",

"body": "I see your point. It is true that im not as wellversed with this genre of game and this season thingy.\n\nHowever, I thing you misinterpreted my point, or may be i didnt make it clear enough. I enjoy team building, i just dont like having to do it again.\n\nFor example, my main now is Sigrid. Next season if i dont pull another op poison dps pretty sure i will have to run her again. So why do i have to rebuild her since i use her anw.\n\nArknight for example (and yes by saying you enjoy this game id boldly assume that u wouldnt like arknight) powercreeps the game and adds newer harder content. The same is true for most other gâchas. At the very least, they turn into card collector games.\n\nAnd yes I know Dragonheir is not a quote unquote typical gâcha game per say. It just has gacha mechanics. In many ways it is more similar to RSL and other western game where teambuilding, gear optimizing, and being resourceful are the key elements.\n\nIdk why cant they just add new boss, add the 6th star, add sth to the existing characters, or rework/buff them instead of having to redo everything (or most)",

"body": "You are getting stuck in the mindset that you are losing something with reset. You are not. How many games have ghost towns scattered through them, because in one expansion this city was the center of civilization, and in the next the abandoned it? How many times did you strap on your best level 75 gear for old times sake, once you've reached level 90? Never. \n\nAnd the last thing I ever want us a sixth star. Talk about power bloat, yikes. In 2-3 years, every hero would be level 250, with 17 stars, and so much old useless gear and abilities it would take hours to sift through.\n\nDon't be the guy who gets mad because he doesn't get to keep everything he's ever accumulated in a game. It smacks of being a hoarder. This game may seem like an mmorpg, but it's not. If you want that experience, there are countless games to try. This is not one of them, lol. This is a new concept in gaming, as a phone more than 5 years old can't even run it. Take the ride with an open mind, it's undiscovered country right now.",

First third is very resource constrained and it's really hard to try the new seasonal champs, and then at the end you're just swimming in stamina and can level any hero with ease. I want them to pull that forward just a bit, either increases goblin rewards or decrease leveling resources to let us have the fun experimenting before the end of the season.",

"body": "> Ive also never seen this concept of reset in any game ever. \n\nDiablo, Path of Exile, tons of other seasonal games. Its a pretty common concept. Even the part that not everything resets is pretty common.\n\n\n\n> I dont get the idea behind it. What's the point in spending time and effort actually playing the game \n\nYou still have the collection part of the game. You have things that don't reset and part of playing the game is to focus on those parts and view the reseting things as means to get the permanent things.\n\nThe other answser is: Having fun playing! For me the progression period of a game is the most fun and seasons will make you get that period again and again. \n\n\n\n> Think about season 3 4 5 (or more) in the future, imagine how many times veterans and have to rebuild teams again and again, doing almost the same thing instead of keep progressing and doing something new. \n\nIts actualy the opposite. New seasons and new seasonal mechanics + elemntal rotation require different teams. Your Fire/Poisson team in season will simply not work the same way in season 2. That seasonal change is an important aspect of seasonal games.\n\nFor standard gachas the same teams, the same heroes will usualy work fine (almost) forever. You mentioned RSL and the last part was the major issue for me. My dungeon teams did not change for over a year. Only had to do some adjustments when the affinty changed with the level increase to 25. Even that was boring as it wasn't about looking for new heroes to build but simply select the right ones out of those i already had build and were idling in my storage. The faction crypt teams never changed at all, same for arena once i had mine set up.\n\nIn Raid i actualy had massive issues when i had events requiring to level more champions while i had all the good ones in my possesion already build. In Dragonheir i'll have to make those interesting choice on which hero to focus every season."

"body": "You are kinda right, and kinda not. I think about it this way. In a trad rpg, whenever they expand, they raise the level cap, create new gear that will replace all your old gear eventually, and put in new fights. You are basically redoing the same toons you're using\n\nThis game does that, in a round about way. All the gearsets were replaced, got some new artifacts while keeping the old, new areas, new fights, and a progressive storyline each new season. No rise in level cap. leveling takes the same time, level 1-70 is only 40% of the xp to get to 100, and most games have this ratio, the last 10 levels are the bulk of the xp.\n\nAlso, the synergy pairings literally prevent you from running the same exact team, season to season. Very few teams cannot be improved by the addition of someone outside their own element.\n\nIt seems a lot more limiting than a trad rpg level cap raise, but after playing through two resets, I'm a believer. You will accumulate heroes so you can have some guys you played previously put on the bench for a season. MY fire, cold, and poison did that this year, full rebuild, all new heroes. My Summon team got a 2 new members, Dauntless did not change except for gear, radiance got a couple BIG additions (Ardreth). I got to keep a team or two that I love (Lelwanis), and build a bunch of new teams. All heroes are still viable, more or less, although the power bloat is real, all 3 new dps schemes have been marked improvements over the old, so we'll have to watch that one.\n\nIn short, give it a try without too much trepidation. You may love it, you may not, but It is not dealbreaker in and of itself. Just a new scheme by the devs to make mo' money. This really is one of the most complex mobile/gacha/rpgs to ever, gonna be some trial and error in there, but the reset concept is not a mistake imo."
