"title": "This game would benefit from character customization ",
"selftext": "As the tittle says, the ability to make a custom character outside of race skins would be really sick. Imagine you are able to change the body type, ethnicity, or hair color of the human characters as well as adding custom scars or tattoos to your character. It lines up well with the dungeon and dragons inspiration that IronMace is deriving this game from. This by no means has to be on the level of Elden Ring or even Fall Out 4 but some small changes can really get you in the mindset of your character for better role playing. What y’all think though? \n",

For example cleric, fighter, and warlock can be confused for each other depending on what gear they are running. This also further made confusing by the race skins as that gets rid of the base character models.",

{

I guess for it me it depends on what direction you want to the game to go in. I know some people want the ability to be total incognito until a fight starts for reasons like teaming against geared teams and such."

},
{
"body": "I mean, yeah it would be cool... Necessary? Not so much.\nLike yeah if it where there it'd be nice, I would prefer the devs to invest their time on anything else honestly, as character customization can be very complex to build from ground up. Also consider they only have like 2 or 3 guys working on game models (might have changed since last time I heard about it) might be better for them to work on new classes or new enemies imo.",

"body": "That's not how it works with game dev. There are different positions working on different aspects. The people working on models aren't the ones building new classes & enemies (aside from the model in this case, obviously).\n\nThey definitely can work on other things related to model looks, plus it helps with burnout working on a particular thing constantly (some love that tho, TBF).\n\nBut, yeah, last I heard they still haven't really hired too much more.",
"replies": [
{
"body": "I guess I should have explained why I thought working on this feature would delay new classes/enemies dev.\n\nThey have mentioned before they only have 1 person working on enemy models, and that he was also working on druid animations and transformations. I would think this person is responsible for overall models and animations, so he would be responsible for extending character model costumization imo (if it became a thing), thus delaying any new enemies or new classes animations being worked on.\n\nThis is completely only how I think things work on IM based on that comment long time ago, and I also don't know if they have already hired more ppl. But that's where my comment comes from. I do not have much knowledge on game dev, but I work on software dev professionally which I assume is not really that far off (I might be wrong tho xd).\n\nEdit: I think this 1 person thing was mentioned on a podcast Terrence attended to announce news about druid and ice abyss before they where out, so you can figure out how old that info is and maybe my whole comment was invalid either way xd",

{
"body": "I mean you're not far off, and also the podcast you got your info from might still be correct. I don't think we've heard about IM hiring more people yet (although not that that would be talked about much).\n\nI also didn't realize that particular team member *also* did animations too. So, that is news to me, thanks for informing good o'l ignorant me. :D\n\nI hope IM just goes for more pre-made assets to lessen the burden on their team members. But, I understand that then kills their design philosophy."

{
"body": "I agree. And I don't understand the character ID help argument from some players.\n\n 1. I hate the pre inspection spamming. Knowing exactly what you're gonna deal with before you deal with it takes the excitement out of it. When you swing the door you don't go \"OH shit people! What do I do now\" and act on instinct and based on what they do. Instead you go \"OH shit, it's that fighter I saw in the lobby, I know his gear is all grey, imma just push him and kill him cuz I know I can out trade his damage.\"\nHow boring is that? Knowing how a fight will happen before it does? Dumb.\n\n2. There is plenty of indication as to what's what when fists start flyin. the cosmetics of a character, which are usually a different race or covered in armor anyway, don't matter. But when the plated up warrior in front of me pulls out a book and a red orb starts boiling above his hand, okay, it's a warlock, duh. \n\nHow a bald spot on a head you never see is a primary source of identification is something I'll never understand"

If we have a Rogue (my main class) with a Rogue Cowl, you have no idea if it's common or legend, or at least not until you engage in combat but it's hard to differentiate.\n\nThe only thing that might be OP is a full black outfit that may confer some advantages, other than that skins for gear would be dope, might actually help IM to make some money.\n\nThe most skins I am interesting in are weapons, throwable, and gloves since those are the things I see while playing the game."
