C/D: Is CoD a tactical shooter?
Format: markdownScore: 65Link: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com From: RycerX | #005I don't think of it as a tactical shooter because it's pretty obvious CoD was designed to be a run and gun. Small maps, fast character movement, very limited ammo. The one shooter I will always refer to is Counter Strike, which you can argue is the king of online tactical shooters. CS features exactly everything you mentioned here. The fact that CoD does have smaller, more intricate maps is precisely what fuels a lot my the opinion that tactical gameplay does exist. Camping is part of any shooter out there, not just CoD, also. To me, there are two sides to the CoD gameplay. In TDM, I would call this the least tactical part of the game, and doesn't resemble more in the way of Goldeneye or Perfect Dark. The objective modes, though, how can one argue there being nothing in the way of tactical gameplay? The perk system, grenade types, and equipment all help or emphasize varying tactics or strategy, and often can make or break a match. Of course gun skill is the main component to success (as is the case for any shooter across the board), but hell, CoD feature more in the way of match altering options than the Battlefield franchise you mention (which is more of a strategy shooter, not tactical).
