"selftext": "I've just made an observation, correct me if I'm wrong, but...\n\nPalworld released this beta with literally no story, no NPCs to give you quests, no immersive music experience (none that I noticed at least).\n\nThe game was literally published with the gameplay only...and it worked like a charm, hence the steam player base.\n\nThere are still some kinda game breaking bugs like the faulty base building and path tracing, and I for one, get a \"game save error\" every few minutes. But these shall be solved for sure in the next updates.\n\nIf ir scores so high on the leaderboards, I can't even imagine how it will be like when they actually polish the game including the bugs, the story, the storytelling and other things.\n\nPS: With such a playerbase I believe if the big guys succeed with a lawsuit, they will face harsh backlash from the gamer community, including their own player bases.",

Its open world crafting, alot of games tries to tell a story but the openess of the genre means they always fail .Im fine if they dont focus much on story, but rather making quest to give players some objectives to do like \"kill or capture specific pals\" for rewards or to help lessen the grind is fine",

But to tie the towers and a few dungeons to a basic storyline and some background info a few quests that give useful rewards like 50 pal fluids for capturing ur first 10 water guys. Little things doesn’t need a huge storyline. But would make it easy to add arenas for pvp or endless wave event etc"

"body": "Having a baseline story and lore does work and is fine for a game like this. It worked in Ark in pretty much a similar fashion as what they are doing here with the notes. All Ark did was give you a backstory of those that came before you, and the story is just “find us”. You then create your own story and path your own journey with the game just acting as reflection of your experience as you reach the end goal of each map.\n\nThis game doesn’t need a deep dive story to force a player into sure, but some elements of one to just send you out into the world at your leisure to make your own story path would be nice for the devs to flesh out in the future."

It's refreshing to get a game with minimal exposition. Story should complement the gameplay and give a break from action, not be a movie where you press A to progress dialog. \n\nSure would be nice to get those towns fleshed out, but for now I like this approach of 'here you see those towers?
