Tell us a little bit about yourslef ! Your country ?Languages known ?Hobbies ?Favorite books ? What are you looking for in a pen-pal ?
Heey,My name is Sophie and I live in The Netherlands.I am 16 years old and I am going to a school of preuniversity college. Next year I will take my exams. In school I am learning (idk if that's correct English) English, Dutch, German and French. My hobbies are reading (of course), watching movies and series, I also like to spend time with my friends and family! I don't have a favorite book because I haven't read many books yet. I am really looking forward to get a pen-pal because I have interest in other countries and cultures. I hope my pen-pal is a kind person and I would like it if we could talk about different things. ;) I also would like to improve my English.I hope my English is correct or at least I hope you can read this (shame on me) xxxSophie
Hello, My name is Kim. I'm from America, more specifically the tip of Texas. The town I live in border's Mexico. I'm 24 years old and I have a bachelors degree in art. English is my native language but I also know Spanish. I can understand and read Spanish but I can't speak it very well or write it. As for hobbies, I enjoy a good book, I love painting and printmaking, and I love a good nap. Favorite books, I do have a few. The Raven Cycle series, The Wrath and the Dawn, Fangirl, and Carry On. I'm looking for a pen-pal that I can talk to about books and the feelings they give. It would be nice to have someone to share things with and vice versa. To be able to provide each other with support and comfort. Also it would be nice to learn about other cultures. Basically I want a friend who I can talk to.
Hey there people! My name is Enci, I'm from Hungary and I'm 20 years old. Currently I'm studying economics at university, working towards getting a BSc degree (and yes, I'm one of those weird people who likes it and especially likes the math part of it). I speak Hungarian and English fluently and hypothetically I can speak some German too, though I'm struggling with that most of the time. That is my other focus currently, to improve my German skills to a point where I can take a proper exam. Hopefully I'll get there before I die.My hobbies are pretty simple, mostly include reading or when I have the time and energy, roleplaying on tumblr (though I haven't done that iN FUCKING AGES. WEEPS.). I also like to watch tv shows and movies and I'm starting to watch more and more historical documentaries these days as well. I like swimming and riding a bike too. My favorite books are the Harry Potter series, which is always going to be one of the best reading experiences of my life, and The Martian by Andy Weir. What I am looking for in a pen pal, hmmm. Basically just people to gush over about books or tv shows or annoying people in our lives or anything that we share a common love for. I'm down for any type of communication, really. So if you wanna talk, just hit me up or something. I don't know how this works.Or how I should end this post.So yeah. Bye.
Hi, my name's Ashley and I'm 22 from Perth, Australia! I'm currently on a year's break from my bachelor of science, and my second major in that is French studies. I'm pretty good at reading, understanding and speaking, but my syntax is terrible and I can't think it up on the spot. I'd also like to learn how to speak Dutch, as my grandmother is from Holland.I (obviously) like to read, and when I'm not doing that I'm working, playing games, watching tv or going to rehearsal for concert band. Or hanging out with my cats. They're called Thor and Teddy and they're both ginger and put a lot of hair over everything. Not entirely sure what I want in a pen pal but an opportunity to practice languages is definitely something I think I can do.
Hi.My name is Marilu (like Marie Lu the writer). I'm 18 years old. I'm from Mexico so I speak Spanish and English. I used to have a lot of hobbies but now I only read (which I enjoy a lot) and listen to music and watch The Flash. If you count sleeping as a hobby, then put it in my list.My favorite books that I can think about right now are Hush Hush and Saga Lux. Most of the time I say something related to one of these beauties. What I am looking for in a pen-pal is for people that likes to talk, not necessarily about books, it can be anything! I want my pen-pal to know that it does not matter the time to send me a message, I may reply the next day because probably at midnight I'll be sleeping but I'll get in touch with him/her as soon as I wake up.I really don't know what else to say, I just answered to the questions at the top. Goodbye :)
I'm Marya, which is not my real name and I change my username often, so perhaps I will be something else once you read this post. I speak only English fluently, but I can say a few things in Mandarin, French, and Russian.I sing a lot and have written a few songs, play the piano, and knit. My favorite books are the sad historical fiction kind that end before you want them to and teach you honest real-world lessons. I never give shallow and funny books more than 3 or 3.5 stars unless they are particularly exceptional. My particular interest is Russian and early 20th-century royal history and most YA historical fiction.I don't know what I'm looking for in a pen pal besides someone who likes Russian history.
Hi! I'm Ratana and I'm from Cambodia. I'm only 13 so I'm pretty young. My birthday is in autumn. I'm a trilingual (English, Mandarin, and Khmer, which is my country's language). Black and purple are my favorite colors. My hobbies include singing, even though I have a horrible voice, playing piano, reading, eating (I'm up for anything that is junk food), and that's pretty much all I do everyday. My favorite books are Clockwork Princess, Divergent, and Poison Study. I am fine with any pen pals as I normally get along pretty well with people but preferably someone with a good sense of humor and who appreciates sarcasm and puns, and who also have the same tastes in books as me, which are YA, romance, NA, lots of magic and fantasy, humor, and action and adventure.

Heey guys!!My name is Laura. I'm 20 years old and I'm from the Netherlands. I'm studying International studies in uni with a specialisation on Russia and Eurasia. I speak Dutch and English fluently, I'm learning Russian and my knowledge of German, French and Spanish is slowly diminishing now that I'm not in high school anymore and don't use it anymore. I'd be happy to chat with people in any of these languages although I'll probably reply faster in Dutch and English as I'm very lazy and then I have to think less:)My hobbies include horse riding, traveling, reading, watching series / movies I really don't know what my favourite books are...I really love Harry Potter, fangirl, shatter me trilogy and so on. However lately I've also been trying to branch out a little and read more diverse books from different places in the world. If you've got any suggestions that would be nice:)

I'm not fluent in anything other than English and Spanish but I do understand some Italian, French, Japanese and Korean. I started studying German in September but stopped after a month because I started reading more and haven't really had time to study. Also, I don't really like to study :PI lead a rather sedentary life, this year more than usual. My hobbies are reading, watching Netflix, Youtube, and listening to music. Currently my favorite book is The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I love the witty humor and the overall unpredictability. My hobbies are reading, writing short stories, listening to music and journaling. My favorite books are Antigoddess by Kendare Blake and the Harry Potter series.
Hi:) I'm Jia Ming and I'm only 14 :P My love for books only started last year when my friends introduced me to one of my favourites series that got me started on this amazing journey, which is The Mortal Instruments. I live in Southeast Asia and I have a blog www.jiamingunfathomable.wordpress.com I'm still studying so it's really difficult to juggle blogging/reviews and school. Unlike some amazing people I met on Goodreads, like Bea (Hey!) for example, I don't really have connections to authors and publishers to get ARCS and stuff. So I'm going to plan to focus on my studies first and explore the bigger part of this community later. I really want to make real Friends here because it would be cool, if one day we could finally meet :) -- So yeah. That's me XD --

Hello, my name is Lucija, I'm from Croatia and am 18 years old.I got into reading when I was 16. I guess my favorite genre is fantasy, but I read a variety of books depending on my mood. And yes, I am SUCH a mood reader and am currently reading 7 (8) books? And no, reading many books at a time doesn't mean that you aren't invested in the characters. Believe me, that's not at all the case with me.My hobbies are music school, tennis, reading (DUH) and all that takes up all of my time along with school. (I do have somewhat of a social life. Big shocker) Also, I am fluently speaking Croatian, English and Italian, and have just started learning French, 2 months ago.I am obsessed with music and almost always listen to my trusty playlist while reading (Dinosaur jr.,Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, The Doors, Guns, The Rolling Stones...)I won't bore you anymore and if you want to chat I'm up for it.

I love to read, write, draw, cook (even though I don't do it very often), and watch Netflix. Occasionally I like to take picture when I think the setting I'm in is photo-worthy.I fluently speak English and I'm learning the basics of French at my high school so I can carry on a very empty conversation of "Hi, my name is....How are you? Bye!" I'm also learning a lot about European culture in general. My favorite books are I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson, Heroes of Olympus series and Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan, The Selection series by Kiera Cass, and The Mortal Instruments/The Infernal Devices series.I want a pen pal so I can make a new friend where we can share each others cultures and help each other with learning our different languages. Hello! My name is Mans and I am from Canada! I am 26 and I speak English and Cantonese (I cannot write or read Chinese though). I also took a Japanese course when I was in university, but I can hardly read any hiragana (only form I learned) now. I would love to pick up my Japanese again, and perhaps even learn a bit of Russian so I can communicate with my boyfriend's family haha.I work in the finance industry, which I really shouldn't be since I studied math, music and education, and I read a lot during my 2 hour commutes. I often get so into the book that I walk home from my train, just to sit down and read again.I've never pen-pal'd before, and am generally just looking for someone to connect with and to share my love of reading (mainly romantic comedies, or YA/dystopians - I tend to dislike alpha-male characters that don't seem to have any weakness) and travelling - make a new friend! :)
Hi, my name is Evelia. I speak English and Spanish. I live in the United States.I like to read and write when I have time.Right now I like to watch Korean dramas and movies. I like to watch Agent Carter.I never had a pen pal, interested in talking about books, tv shows.I like to read all types of books. Some of my favorite writers are Charles Dickens, Flannery O' Connor and Isabel Allende.
Hi! My name's Bea. I'm from the Philippines. I have graduated from the course of interior design and had done an interior design exhibit last year. I'm turning 24 this year, but people still think I'm younger for my age.I know English and Filipino and two other dialects from my country. Learning Japanese and Spanish ( As half of my family is Spanish) and also trying out Russian.I used to do tennis back in grade school and was a student athlete in my college and my sport was fencing (I was terrible at it though). My hobbies include reading, watching historical documentary and drawing. I love the TV Shows Vikings, Game of Thrones, Black Sails and Da Vinci's Demons. I love the genre of fantasy and historical fictionMy favorite book as of now is Promise of Blood by Brian McClellan. What I look for in a pen pal... Well... Someone who loves culture like I do. I'd like to exchange culture knowledge and maybe someone whom I can learn a new language with. Someone whom can maybe be understanding since I am quite shy and awkward in all honesty and I sorta have anxiety. Anyone honestly :) I love meeting new people.
hi there,So my name is Amina, I'm 19 and I'm studiying history and English in the Sorbonne so yeah I'm French. But I'm also Moroccan so I speak arabic and berber.I love reading like everyone here I guess ^^ I always have eversince I remember..I'm also quite addicted to many tv shows. And I like photography and writing.I am aspiring to be a journalist some day.I'm interested in history obviously and in politics but also religions.I dont have so much time currently so I like penpals who are okey with beung patient with me haha.I have had a Polish penpal for a few years now. I like letters but I'm not used to it, I'm more of the social media generation (I love social medias indeed...) But it could be cool though letter penpaling. I'm opened to that.
Hi everyone :)I'm Aquarela. I live in Miami, FL and have lived here for about 15 years now when I moved here after college. I speak only English, but am trying to learn Spanish (of course... I live in Miami LOL) and French so it would be very good to have a pen pal that speaks either one fluently but any pen pal that clicks is cool.I am an artist. So my work is my hobby... it's actually my life! Besides art though, I like to cook, eat Indian food as much as possible, go to the beach, walk / hike, and chill out with a book. I don't watch very much TV at all. If I do, it'll be sci-fi, fantasy or a nice documentary about anything art related, fashion related, or nature related. I get impatient with TV though so even though many friends say, "oh you should watch....(insert show)", I just don't think of turning on the tv to relax very often even though the show they are suggesting I would probably like very much.I admit I'm not very into politics so I don't have much to say there.I've just starting to read more and found my tastes have changed, so I don't have many favorite books yet but I have always liked YA, comics and short stories. I'd like to read more utopian/dystopian fiction.I like to travel. I am fascinated with new experiences. I guess thats about it! :)

Hi everyone! I'm a Portuguese girl living in France.I am 34 (am I the older one here?!) and love photography and stop motions, nature and animals, chemistry and biosciences, kosho-ryu kenpo and yoga, music and cinema!! I'm also addicted to chocolate and books (or else, I wouldn’t be on Goodreads…)! I love to travel and know other cultures, share experiences, ways of living, cultural habits, etc. I have always been a supporter of animal welfare and vegetarianism, but a few years ago I read the Sheryl Sandberg book “Lean In” and it changed my perspective on feminism (and probably awoke the activist monster inside me). Here are 3 of my favorite books:"The Historian" by Elisabeth Kostova "Wild Swans : Three Daughters of China" by Jung Chang "Americanah" by Chimamanda Ngozi AdichieYou can write me in English, French, Spanish or Portuguese!

Hello Everyone! My name is Sarah, I'm 30 years old, and I live in the US- Minnesota specifically. I am a historical costumer, a flamenco dancer, and a beekeeper, with a degree in Anthropology. My other hobbies are reading (obviously) and hijinks; for instance, I am a regular participant in GISHWHES ( the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen), where I have done everything from building a giant bird's nest in the middle of a city street, to filming a water balloon fight between ten people in business suits set to opera music. My two favorite books are: "Jitterbug Perfume" by Tom Robbins "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte I mainly read historical non-fiction, but I also love science, fantasy, and fiction. I speak English and Spanish, and the remains of my college classes in Modern Greek are rattling around in there somewhere.

I have probably read The Historian four times, and am constantly asking people if they've read it, but no one seems to have heard of it. You are also the only other person I've heard of who has read Wild Swans. Of course, now that I'm on goodreads, that will likely change. Anyway, I would be interested in talking more with you! Cheers.

Hello, everyone! My name's Emma and I am an English language teacher from Venezuela. I am fluent in Spanish and English; my French is too rusty for me to claim any sort of competence. Books are precious to me; there's usually one in my purse for me to read whenever it strikes my fancy. I also love watching movies and spoken word videos, dancing, doing Pilates, drinking coffee, and having a laugh with my friends. Watching telly is not really my thing, but I'll admit I love Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Vikings and pretty much any cooking show under the sun. Picking just three books is actually quite cruel, but I guess Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh, Maus by Art Spiegelman and Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi are the ones I tend to reread more often. I'd love to have a pen pal who loves talking and learning about literature, with a great sense of humour and loads of patience; snail mail requires it.Cheers!Emma.
Well, it seems I am the granny of the group. I am 36... I come from Ecuador but have been living in Germany for 12 years. I am married to a german and have a boy. He is seven. My german is ok. I still make many grammar mistakes. I speak german with my husband, spanish with my son and english at work. I read mainly in english.I used to penpal when I was in highschool (real letters with stamps and all) I miss it a lot.My hobbies are reading, dancing, doing aerobics, and I am bit addicted to TV.My fav books are The mother by Pearl S Buck and Interview with the vampire by Anne Rice

Hello! My name is Kenia. I am 23 and from New York City. My primary language is English. I grew up speaking Spanish and I've been learning French and Dutch. Aside from reading, I enjoy playing volleyball and being outdoors when it's warm. I really dislike the cold. I couldn't possibly name one (or three) favorite book(s). I typically read a lot of YA but I've been reading more historical fiction, memoirs and non-fiction lately. I love the idea of a pen pal. Especially if we're reading the same book (which was suggested in the OSS book club - is anyone else a member?). I used to have a couple in elementary school and have since been looking to have one again. So I'm glad I came across this group. - Kenia
