Don't know much about Palworld, just that their devs are apparently kinda scummy. What're your thoughts?

I've never played Palworld but personally I'm excited, especially with the potential of more minions and summoner equipment. A monster catching game is the perfect genre for those items

Oh great another reason to endlessly be in development. Its bad enough devs dont understand time tables or the concept of feature creep. Its been over a year and a half since we were promised a dead cells crossover. Now they are adding this too?! See you all in 2032 when this next update finally releases.

It’s kinda funny how impatient the community’s become. The gap between 1.3.5 and 1.4 was 5 years long and we haven’t even hit the halfway mark for “longest wait for an update” with 1.4.5, yet the impatience and complaining is absolutely massive compared to back then.
Honestly, this game is replayable enough and complete enough that I feel like there’s not much reason to want more to the point of impatience when the game is sitting right there in a state that’s far more fleshed out than its original design to a point that’s honestly absurd when you really think about it. Terraria is already widely considered to be one of the most replayable sandboxes of all time, no need to whine about future plans for it.
Especially considering how there’s definitely just going to be a 1.4.6 update afterwards too. What will everyone say then? Will you complain about that not coming out quickly too?
Also, palworld’s developers aren’t scummy from what I could find. The only controversy I could find that wasn’t just diehard nintendo fans malding about them was coincidentally also instigated by Nintendo, who is trying to patent game mechanics and enforce those patents by suing them (which is FAR scummier in my opinion. If palworld goes down in this lawsuit than something as basic as controllable mounts is going to become a risk to put in any game as nintendo will have set a precedent that they can enforce their patent for controllable mounts)

I’ll save my full thoughts for when we know what the crossover will entail, but I reeaaalllyyyy don’t like the idea of this…
Pocket Pair, the development company behind Palworld, is a kinda shady company that has been in several controversies since Palworld released. The most notable and concerning of those controversies is obviously the lawsuit with Nintendo. I worry that adding Palworld content to Terraria could get Re-Logic in trouble with Nintendo and jeopardize the Nintendo Switch edition of Terraria. It’s not super likely but you never know with Nintendo.
There’s also Palworld’s notoriously lazy and uninspired creature designs which I personally think contradicts with Re-Logic’s dedication to original and creative ideas. I understand that Red and the other devs like Palworld but idk, this just doesn’t feel like a good fit alongside all the other incredible indie games Terraria has crossed over with.

Can anyone explain me why people are so impatient about 1.4.5? Because I do not get anything about the fuzz on rushing the devs. Let them just develop the update and give them the time they need. Meanwhile - start reading books, play other Indie games or begin doing a bit more sport. If you are underage, your parents would be happy if you start the initiative to do more offline tasks while wating for the update. I believe that people wanting so much for updates in super short time are here or on Steam discussions several hours a day or even on harder social media like tiktok or instagram and have little more to do. I do not want send out generalized assumptions but I think maybe my soul is from 1970-01-01 but my body came really later, on 2004-08-21 or it can be that I use often the trains Germany which get delayed and cancelled all the time but I got used to that, both being things that may askew my view on (im)patience.

Acc. to that logic every driving game like Gran Turismo or Train Sim World and any horse game would be suable as those are ridable mounts.

My thoughts exactly. Terraria has always felt really creative and fresh, and every single crossover so far has included similarly creative sorts of things, most notably their crossover with Don't Starve. Palworld feels like such a strange crossover, and I'm also kind of worried about the potential for this to draw some Nintendo-branded law troubles towards Terraria.

I'm not sure how to feel. At first, I was excited, because I'm always up for new content. However, I feel that from what I've seen/read in this thread and others (since I've never played Palworld before) that this may cause more issues than it is to add more content. I'm hoping that we can get more information (potentially in this month's State of the Game) about this, before I make a final judgement. Hopefully, we end with new content without controversy or issues, or abandon the whole crossover.

The impatience mostly stems from the update intending to start out minor in scope and adding a few small bits and pieces of QoL constantly growing and growing in scale. What started out as Dead Cells and the Seeds menu has grown far, far wider than anyone else could have imagined, and many users feel like the one small update they actually want is effectively being held hostage by an update that seems to only grow in scope with every day.
Some frustrations have also come from people holding off starting another playthrough waiting for 1.4.5 to release, under the impression that it wouldn't be that long from the initial scale of it. As you can see now... yeah.
Either way, it's a free update. R-L is not making money by releasing this, so expecting them to rush it to fit some arbitrary deadline is.. a little silly.
A Palworld collab is a big shrug. At most I expect to just see some of the more iconic Pal designs as pets. Anything else is senseless worrying for the sake of worrying, and a lot of the controversies around Palworld at this point have been artifically drummed up by bad faith arguments put forth by social media engagement farmers.

Honestly, most of it just looked like nintendo stans getting annoyed that pokemon has an actual competitor and making up reasons to hate on them

Nintendo took their sweet time with it, and in fact only started the legal battle after Sony bought Palworld.

The point on everything being said is explained in the video by Moon Channel that Airarret sent. Nintendo's lawsuit to Palworld goes tremendously deeper than Nintendo's running record of taking down similar properties and games. Not everyone has the time to learn about the reasoning or details of everything that goes on at this time, Nintendo's reason behind the patent lawsuit is to protect the erosion of their own brand identity.
I do sympathise with Nintendos efforts to protect their intellectual properties. The company is not very large in comparison to the companies that would love to profit from their titles, which forces them to be overprotective. I can not properly explain it as well as Moon Channel does, there are some really insightful videos on the legal reasons behind everything around Nintendo and it's copyright reasoning. The person behind the channel is an actual lawyer, they know what they are talking about, please watch them.
For Terraria, this means it is safe to expect nothing will be coming towards Re-Logic because of the crossover.
Also, I do find it quite strange that we have not got an announcement from Terraria yet about this. I guess we will hear about it in the SotG.

I can't wait for this to release in 2028! ... At least, I hope it releases by then, otherwise the ghost of Otherworld could come and drag the Latest Update into the River Cancelled!
In all seriousness though, the sheer gall of having a new crossover announcement, a year after we're due a previous crossover? "Don't let Perfection be the Enemy of Good." Is a saying that springs to mind, upon this ill news.

Edit: The house portion of the splash art, despite looking off, is most likely not AI-generated as I initially suspected. The biggest followup post about later advancements on this line of discussion can be found here. This post's old content has been edited into a spoiler box for context. All lukewarm defenses aside..

Yeah, I found the building also rather fishy. The poor water candle got cubed.
From what I understand, this is made on Palworld's end, so I can *kinda* understand the artist won't go through the efforts to build a house in a game they may or may not own or be familiar with just to use as a background. (A missed oppurtinity though)
I do find it funny how even AI does that wooden beam underneath a slope problem.

Palworld is an amazing game (fingers crossed they win the lawsuit!) I can't wait for this! Pal summons would be so cool.

This was a bit of a surprise.
Never played palworld but I'm interested to see what kinda stuff we'll get from it.

Just to clarify, I’m not defending Nintendo. I just worry about Re-Logic “taking sides” in what’s far from a black and white issue.

The first thing I noticed was how the Guide/Terrarian’s hand is clasped together with the girls. The fingers don’t wrap all the way around the the palm and thumb is awkwardly on top of the girl’s knuckles.
It is possible that two different artists did the two halfs of this image and just didn’t coordinate well on the hands. But the weird hands combined with the all other odd details like the random x on the guide’s tunic and the inconsistent “pixel art” makes me very suspicious.

I think it's a side effect of the Silksong hype bleeding out. A lot of communities pretend to go "insane" or get frustrated over like 2-3 years of no content. r/Deltarune especially was hit by this hard.
Personally I don't see the big deal. Art takes time, and I'd only start to get worried when it's been over a decade (like half life 3, which is getting some closure for the 20th anniversary of HL2)
